Melissa Dehner is the owner of HoneyBee Creative, LLC, (www.honeybeecreative.net) a Fairway, KS based graphic design and illustration studio. Melissa, a Kansas native, has a degree in illustration and design and has worked in the Kansas City area for the past 12 years. She loves to work on anything creative - acrylic painting, colored pencil, mixed media, etc. Right now she is having a lot of fun creating paintings and drawings on scraps of wood from weathered pieces of fences. She also makes upbeat notecards from original artwork that she creates that are scanned into the computer and then layered together in Photoshop. Employees of HoneyBee Creative include a nutty 14 year old cat who breaks into "song" several times a day for apparently no reason, and a 5 yr. old 3-legged Australian Shepherd mix that can out-run most dogs with 4 legs!

Jenny Whitehead a.k.a Washer Woman creates necklace pendants and magnets that almost always starts with a washer. She incorporates rusty trinkets, found objects, decoupaged art, and reused jewelry in her designs. They are meant to be fun, affordable, and interchangeable. Sarah Anderson has been a full time illustrator/designer at a local greeting card company for the past 8.5 years. Her teenage daughter Michel, a skilled doodler, has dreams of traveling abroad.
Inspired by Michel's bravery and curiosity of the world, Sarah got the idea of a mother/daughter art work team. And voila'! Petit Reve was born. The goal is to eventually raise enough money to travel abroad and to have fun being creative together. They decided on Petit Reve (Little Dream) because Michel's first choice is France and to pay homage to their french great grandmother, Una Frachette. Sarah and Michel are also hoping this endeavor will force them to learn some french..cause uh....right now, they don't speak a lick!

Kearney Benefit Formal tonight!

This Saturday night (Feb 13) the Kearney Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual benefit formal at the Annunciation Community Center in Kearney.
The Chamber has chosen to divide proceeds raised between two groups: The Kearney Senior Center and Art on the Hill. We've operated Art on the Hill on a tight budget in the past, and we've been able to keep the participation fee at a reasonable amount for the artists. With the Chamber's involvement, we can add some extras this year, and with the Firefighter's Convention in Kearney we are expecting a bigger-than-ever crowd. We feel fortunate to be part of a terrific community of such giving artists and to have the support of the generous community of Kearney.

We've had a tremendous response for art donations from Art on the Hill participants: all in all, 24 truly fabulous works of art have been donated (and all pieces shown previous to this post are included in the silent auction at the formal). WOW! What a great group of artists.

Attendees at the formal will have an opportunity to bid on these works of art. A number of Art on the Hill artists will be at the Chamber Formal, so hopefully we'll see you there! We're looking forward to a fun evening, and hope to post photos afterwards!

I saw in today's paper that Gary Lezak thinks we still have another snowstorm or two left to go between now and the end of March. So we have TWO things to get ready for - the crafty event and SPRING!
